FLEX – Future Leaders Exchange

FLEX is a highly competitive, merit-based exchange program funded by the U.S. Department of State. It gives secondary school students from participating countries, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, the opportunity to spend one academic year in the United States, live with a volunteer host family, attend an American high school, participate in community activities and develop leadership and intercultural skills.

Secondary/high school students from FLEX-participating countries Eligibility requirements, including age and grade requirements, are determined by the country-specific FLEX office for each annual cycle Applicants must successfully complete the multi-stage selection process Strong academic performance and English ability are important Applicants should demonstrate adaptability, motivation, leadership potential and the ability to thrive in a new cultural environment Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply Applicants must be able to participate in a full academic year in the United States For the 2027–28 academic year, country-specific eligibility information should be checked when recruitment opens in Fall 2026.
