Garcia Summer Research Program

An intensive summer research program where high school students conduct university-level research with guidance from Stony Brook faculty, students, and researchers.

Hands-on laboratory research; independent research project; mentorship; interdisciplinary STEM environment; opportunities to develop work for publication or scientific conferences; excellent preparation for research competitions.

High school applicants must be at least 16 by July 4, 2026; have an unweighted GPA of at least 95/100 (3.8/4.0); standardized test scores at or above the 60th percentile; and have taken at least 3 of English, Chemistry, Mathematics/Calculus, Physics, and Biology. Transcript and 3 recommendation letters are required, including one from a science teacher. Leadership and extracurricular activities receive consideration. Prior research experience is not required. International students are eligible, but the program does not provide visa support.
