Iowa Young Writers' Studio — 6-Week Online Courses

Six-week online creative writing courses for high school students taught by graduates of the Iowa Writers' Workshop and other University of Iowa graduate writing programs. Students complete writing assignments, readings, peer critiques and online discussions.

Develops creative writing, personal narrative, revision, critical reading and peer-feedback skills. Students produce and revise original work under the guidance of experienced writers and receive a Letter of Completion after successfully completing the course.

Open to students in Grades 9–12, including international applicants. Students need a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 or equivalent good academic standing and must be able to read and write in English. The application includes a 300–500-word Statement of Purpose, parental permission, a teacher statement of support and a transcript.
