International Economics Olympiad (IEO)

The International Economics Olympiad (IEO) is an annual international competition for high-school students in Economics, Finance, and Business. It develops students’ economic knowledge, financial literacy, analytical thinking, creative problem-solving and ability to apply economic concepts to real-world situations. The competition includes Economics and Finance assessments as well as a team-based Business Case.

Must be a high-school student. For the 2026 IEO, contestants had to be under 20 years old on June 30, 2026. For the 2026 competition, the expected high-school graduation date had to be after December 1, 2025. Students must qualify through their country's official national selection process. Students cannot normally apply directly to the Main Track as individuals. Up to 5 students from each country/territory can participate in the IEO. The national selection should be open and transparent and must assess at least one of the IEO areas: Economics, Financial Literacy or Business Case.
