University of Waterloo Beaver Computing Challenge (BCC)

An online computing competition developed by the University of Waterloo's Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC). It introduces students to computer science concepts, computational thinking, logic and problem-solving. No prior programming experience is required.

Develops logical reasoning and creative problem-solving; introduces core computing concepts; allows individual participation; schools can award Certificates of Distinction to top-performing students; past problems and solutions are available for preparation.

Three levels: Grades 5–6, 7–8 and 9–10. Students must be within the grade range for their chosen level. The contest is completed individually at school under a supervisor. The school must register and order the contest; the minimum order is 10 participants. Time limit: 45 minutes. No programming background is required.
