The Science Mentorship Institute (Sci-MI) is a nonprofit organization providing free research mentorship to high school students worldwide. Its summer programs pair students with experienced mentors to study a scientific field and conduct an independent research project. Current areas include Neuroscience, Biology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Chemistry. Programs are fully virtual and combine synchronous instruction with independent work.

Requirements

High school or equivalent-level student. International students are eligible. No prior research experience required. Some programs specifically welcome students without previous experience in the field. Ability to dedicate approximately 10–20 hours per week. Availability for most of the program period, generally from mid-June to early August. Computer and internet access required. Essay: no separate mandatory competitive essay is listed in the published requirements. Interview: no mandatory student interview is listed. Individual programs may have additional requirements, which should be checked when applications open.
